In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the HKMoA, Ng Tsz Kwan is commissioned to create a multisensory and site-specific experiential installation “Beyond the frames – from perceiving frames of context to experiencing art in itself” to be displayed to embody the visual storyline transformed from the museum’s four core collections. It attempts to break the audiences’ predetermined ways of art appreciation, enables them to focus on and explore more about the artworks. Audience can interact with the installation by choosing images of collection highlights preset in the kiosk to create a new visual storyline. At the time when an artwork is selected, the 16m-long group of LED displays in different sizes and formats above the Concierge synchronize to show that specific piece at an enormous scale. The installation provokes the viewers into reflecting on how they see and understand art from the varying frames of different underlying contexts. Such spectacular on-the-spot impact gives the audience a brand new museum experience with their unique interpretation.
